Composite or timber?

Four steps to a fence that stands.
Most fence failures start at the posts. Set them deep, straight and clear of standing water, and the panels look after themselves.

Measure the run
Measure the full boundary and divide by the panel width plus one post. Round up, never down.

Check the boundary
Confirm which side is yours before you dig. Fences over 2m, or 1m beside a road, usually need planning permission.

Set the posts
Sink posts about a quarter of their length into the ground. Concrete them in and check each one is plumb.
04
Fit and finish
Fit gravel boards first, then the panels and gate. Treat bare timber before the first winter.
